Report: Interim chief for Duluth Police Dept. makes history as first woman to lead agency

Officials have announced who will be leading the city of Duluth, Minnesota’s police department as they continue searching for a permanent replacement for the previous chief, Mike Tusken.

Tuesday, Hubbard-owned affiliate WDIO-TV reported current Police Deputy Chief Laura Marquardt will serve as the department’s interim chief.

Marquardt—who has been with the department for nearly three decades—is making history as interim chief. She is the first woman to lead the Duluth Police Department, according to WDIO.

Marquardt will begin her position starting Aug. 1. She previously oversaw the Administrative Division.

Tusken announced his retirement earlier this summer.
