Police investigating assault on Brooklyn Park trail

Police are investigating a report of an assault Sunday night in Brooklyn Park.

According to Brooklyn Park police, officers went to Three Rivers Park Trail near Oak Grove Park at around 9:30 p.m. after receiving a report of an assault. There, officers found an 18-year-old woman who said she’d been assaulted.

The woman told police she was running on the trail when a man started walking his bike behind her. The man then tried to talk to her and grabbed her wrist, police say, but the victim was able to run away.

The suspect is described as a man between 40 and 50 years of age, around 6-foot-1 with a slim build. He also had a black mustache and short, black hair, and was wearing a gray T-shirt, sunglasses and dark-colored shorts. His bike was a gray or black mountain bike.

Police said the man was last seen headed north on the trail near 103rd Avenue North.

Police are asking anyone with information that could help them identify the man to call 911 or 763-493-8222.

The department also said it will have increased patrols on trails for the foreseeable future.
