1 arrested following multi-county police chase

Authorities say one person is in custody Wednesday following a police chase involving a stolen vehicle during overnight hours.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies tried stopping a vehicle just after 4 a.m. Wednesday in Mahtomedi.

The deputies said they believed the male driver had multiple felony warrants, including burglary.

However, the driver took off, and a chase began. Authorities say the chase went through Washington County, entered Ramsey County, and eventually ended when the driver crashed into a light pole near the Minnesota State Capitol.

The driver then ran from the scene, but was arrested soon after and taken to the Washington County Jail.

The Sheriff’s Office says the man, who has not been named as of this time, is facing multiple felony charges for the chase Wednesday morning—including drug possession for methamphetamine—on top of the outstanding warrants.
