North Minneapolis to receive new trail connection

A new 1,000-foot trail connection is in the works to link Ole Olson Park and the 26th Avenue North overlook in north Minneapolis.

It’s the latest addition to the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway, the 51-mile long continuous bike and walking path that surrounds most of Minneapolis.

The new section of trail will traverse the bluff along the Mississippi River and create access to more park area that is currently inaccessible. Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Department says that construction will begin this year and is expected to open to the public in 2023.

The city says that new access points to the river can be used for picnicking, fishing, and canoeing among other activities.

Minneapolis Parks is asking for community feedback on the project. A public meeting will be held on Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. More information can be found here.
