Mother arrested, warrant issued for father after 1-year-old dies from possible overdose

Authorities say an investigation is underway after a one-year-old boy died from a possible overdose early Sunday morning.

According to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to an apartment on the 200 block of County Road B2 in Little Canada around 3:15 a.m. for a possible narcotics overdose.

The sheriff’s office reports deputies were told by the boy’s mother that he had been left with his father for about 15-20 minutes.

When she came home, deputies say she found her son in medical distress.

Despite life-saving measures, the boy died at an area hospital.

The boy’s 31-year-old mother was arrested on suspicion of second-degree manslaughter, and a warrant was issued for the boy’s father. The father’s name and age weren’t immediately provided.

As of Tuesday morning, formal charges hadn’t been filed against the mother.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the boy’s official cause of death.
