Minneapolis man receives 15-month prison sentence for sexually abusing minor on plane

Federal officials say a Minneapolis man will serve a 15-month prison sentence after he was found guilty of abusive sexual contact.

According to the United States Department of Justice, 41-year-old Neeraj Chopra learned his fate Thursday.

Court documents say Chopra engaged in abusive sexual contact with a 16-year-old who was sitting next to him on a flight from Boston to Minneapolis in April 2019.

The documents say Chopra got a blanket from his backpack and put it on his lap, and also put a part of the blanket on the victim’s right leg. Documents go on to say Chopra then put his hand under the blanket and inappropriately touched the victim, and despite being repeatedly told to stop by the victim, did not.

A jury found Chopra guilty in July 2021.
