Man pleads guilty to vehicular homicide charge

The man charged in the aftermath of a fatal crash on Highway 169 in Minnetonka has pleaded guilty to one count of criminal vehicular homicide while operating a vehicle and using a controlled substance.

According to court records, 58-year-old Selmon Rogers entered the plea on July 12.

The crash, which happened in the early afternoon of Jan. 28, 2021, killed 22-year-old Abdi Aden Isack. He died at an area hospital due to injuries suffered in the crash.

Traffic cameras showed a Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Rogers, crossing through the median of Highway 169 through an opening in the barriers and driving north in the southbound lanes before hitting Isack’s vehicle.

A blood sample from Rogers found metabolites of THC, cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl and norfentanyl, a criminal complaint states.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for the morning of Aug. 12.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a $20,000 fine or both.

Rogers had also been charged with one count of criminal vehicular operation resulting in bodily harm while using a controlled substance (a gross misdemeanor), however, that charge has been dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
