Landing gear ‘malfunction’ interrupts Las Vegas to Minneapolis flight

A Sun Country Airlines flight scheduled from Las Vegas to Minneapolis was forced to turn around shortly after takeoff due to an issue.

The flight departed Harry Reid International Airport — formerly McCarran International Airport — at around 3:18 a.m. Friday morning.

According to Sun Country, “the aircraft’s right landing gear malfunctioned,” causing the aircraft to come to a stop on the runway.

All 50 passengers and a half-dozen crew members were deplaned using an “airstairs” and returned to the terminal with no reported injuries.

The airline is working with local authorities and the National Transportation Safety Board in response to the incident.

“We will first and foremost take care of our passengers and crew. We will then work with the NTSB to fully investigate this incident to understand what happened,” Sun Country CEO Jude Bricker said in a statement.
