Child taken to hospital after getting hit by car in Alexandria

Authorities say a child was injured after being hit by a car in Alexandria on Tuesday evening.

The Alexandria Police Department reports officers were called to the YMCA parking lot at around 5:15 p.m. on a report of a child who was struck by a car.

Officers and medics responded and provided aid to the 5-year-old boy, who was alert and conscious, according to police.

The child was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

Police say they’re still working to determine what happened but the involved driver is cooperating with the investigation.
