Charges: St. Paul man fired at police officers amid riots

A St. Paul man faces charges after authorities say he fired at police officers during riots that broke out following the death of George Floyd.

According to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, 27-year-old Jaleel Stallings faces two counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, one count of second-degree assault and three other charges for firing multiple shots at officers.

The attorney's office said his bail is set at $500,000.

According to a criminal complaint, Saturday night, SWAT officers were patrolling near 15th Avenue South and Lake Street. When the officers reached the area of 14th Avenue South, they saw a group that then dispersed upon seeing the police.

The complaint states Stallings then walked from behind a car and walked toward the officers.

According to the complaint, officers were concerned after Stallings crouched near the vehicle and fired a less-lethal round at him. The complaint goes on to say that Stallings then fired three to four shots in the officers' direction. No officers were injured.

Stallings ran away and was later taken into custody by officers.

The complaint says officers later found a firearm near the vehicle where Stallings was seen.
