Charges: Northern Minnesota teen shot mother over meth dispute

A northern Minnesota teenager has been charged with the attempted murder of her mother over an alleged dispute about methamphetamine.

Hubbard Broadcasting sister station WDIO-TV reports that authorities were called Sunday night about a woman suffering from a gunshot wound in Morcom Township in St. Louis County. Deputies were advised the suspect was a juvenile family member. They later found a vehicle stuck in a ditch about 2 miles north of where the shooting was reported and learned the suspect was one of the occupants.

The teen was then taken into custody.

The juvenile petition states the teen admitted to shooting her mother. It adds that the 16-year-old’s mother had taken away meth from her daughter and the teen wanted it back, which led to the shooting.

The teen’s mother was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition, according to WDIO.
