2 charged in armed robbery of Brooklyn Center hotel

Two men were charged Wednesday for an armed robbery of a Brooklyn Center hotel in February.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said 28-year-old Keanu Dewone Ross, of Minneapolis, and 28-year-old Antoinette Deniece Mae Dobyne, of Fargo, N.D., were charged in connection to an armed robbery of a Super 8 Hotel.

According to a criminal complaint, Brooklyn Center police responded to the Super 8 at about 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 14 on a report of a robbery, and an employee told officers that two men, both carrying firearms, ordered him to the ground and took his belongings.

The man said the suspects then told him to run from the scene, and as he did he heard multiple gunshots.

The complaint states surveillance video corroborated the man’s account and also showed the suspects run into an SUV and then flee from the SUV after it got stuck in a snowbank. Officers later located Dobyne in the SUV. Ross later called police and said he was the boyfriend of the SUV’s driver and his wallet and ID were in the SUV. He was detained during a traffic stop in Minneapolis later that day.

When Ross was arrested, police found a .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol, and further analysis showed it was the same weapon fired at the hotel.

Because of prior felony convictions, Ross isn’t allowed to have firearms or ammunition.

Ross and Dobyne were each charged with one count of aiding and abetting interference with commerce by robbery, and Ross was also charged with felon in possession and using a firearm in a crime of violence.

Their next hearing is set for July 20.
