1 stabbed, 1 arrested after fight between 2 dozen Mississippi River tubers

One person was taken to a hospital and another was arrested following a large fight and stabbing involving a group of tubers on the Mississippi River Sunday.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a reported assault on the river between Power Dam Road Northeast and Roosevelt Road Southeast – about six miles east of Bemidji – just before 6:30 p.m.

Authorities learned that two groups of people were tubing down the river when they stopped on a shallow spot in the river. The two groups — which totaled about 25 people — then started arguing and fighting. Details regarding what led up to the fight weren’t immediately provided.

During the fight, a 20-year-old woman from Deer River allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old Bemidji woman in the arm.

Authorities caught up with the victim at the Mississippi River Bridge on Roosevelt Road Southeast, provided aid and took her to a hospital for treatment.

The Deer River woman was found and arrested a short time later for assault and consumption by a minor, the sheriff’s office says.
