The City of Minneapolis is letting property owners know that they can enter a lottery to purchase a low-cost tree at anytime through March 9.
The city program will provide around 850 property owners the chance to order a 5- to 8-foot tree to be planted in their yard. A release said large species shade trees cost $30 each. Fruit trees and smaller species cost $40 each.
Sixteen varieties of trees are available this year in all, including flowering trees and several kinds of fruit trees.
According to the release, lottery entrants will hear back by March 14.
The city says the program has provided around $14,000 trees for planting on private property over the past 12 years.
