'JEOPARDY!' host Trebek thanks fans for well wishes after cancer diagnosis

"JEOPARDY!" host Alex Trebek thanked his viewers who have sent him well wishes following his cancer diagnosis via social media Thursday. 

Trebek announced he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last week.

"I just want to take a few moments to say thanks to the, believe it or not, to the hundreds of thousands of people who have sent tweets, texts, emails, cards and letters wishing me well," Trebek said. 

The game show host said he has received a number of well wishes from former "JEOPARDY!" contestants.

While Trebek said he can't respond to everything he receives, he assured viewers he does read them. 

"I am thankful for the kind words, the prayers and the advice you have offered and I am extremely touched by the warmth you have expressed in your comments to me," he said. "I'm a lucky guy."
