Enjoy Winter Recreation

Get out and enjoy recreational winter sports around the metro. Looking to speed downhill on skis or a snowboard? Hyland Hills, Afton Alps and Buck Hill may just be the place to go. Speeding downhill not your thing? Try out cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Minnesotans can rent equipment for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing through Three Rivers Park District, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and St. Paul parks and recreation


Excelsior Ice Castles 

Explore the frozen wonder of the Excelsior Ice Castles over the weekend. According to the organization that builds the creations, the Excelsior exhibit is one of six in the country. The castles include lit sculptures, frozen thrones, slides and more.

Fire & Ice: 2019 Winter Carnival Art Show 

See what local artists are up to during the Fire &Ice: 2019 Winter Carnival Art Show. According to event organizers, the artists' works depict, "the powerful forces of winter battling the hopeful promises of spring." 

Date: Runs through Feb. 17

Place: AZ Gallery, St. Paul 


Minneapolis RV, Vacation and Camping Show 

Plan your next RV getaway during the Minneapolis RV, Vacation and Camping Show. According to event organizers, the show features the latest make and models of recreational vehicles. 

Date: Thursday - Sunday

Place: Minneapolis Convention Center, Minneapolis 


Minnesota Golf Show

Get ready to get out on the links during the Minnesota Golf Show. Dubbed the "Midwest's most prestigious consumer golf show," attendees will be able to see the latest in "golf equipment, gadgets, gifts, garbs and getaways. 

Date: Friday - Sunday 

Place: Minneapolis Convention Center, Minneapolis 


39th Annual Battle of the Jug Bands 

Get down to jug band music over the weekend during the 39th Annual Battle of the Jug Bands. Jug bands are comprised of acoustic instruments and classic jug band instruments, including the jug, washboard, spoons, the kazoo and the harmonica. The event is split between two venues, with Saturday's music happening at the Minnesota Music Cafe in St. Paul and Sunday's music happening at the Cabooze in Minneapolis.

            Sunday - Cabooze, Minneapolis 


Wayzata Chilly Open

Missing the golf course? Get back into the swing of things on the ice of Lake Minnetonka during the Chilly Open. The event includes a golf tournament, with three nine-hole courses where golfs use tennis balls, hockey sticks and golf clubs. Other activities include ice skating and a movie, snowkiting, snowga (yoga out in the snow) and more.

Richfield Winter Market

Summer still is a bit far off, but you can still enjoy the atmosphere of a farmer's market. Pick up fresh produce and other foods during the Richfield Winter Market. The event will include 13 different vendors and live music.

Time: 3 to 6 p.m.

Place: Richfield Community Center, Richfield 


Mill City Indoor Winter Market

Find locally grown produce, as well as other food items during the Mill City Farmers Market indoor winter market. The market hosts more than 40 local farmers, food makers and artists. 

Date: Saturday

Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Place: Mill City Museum, Minneapolis


Monster Energy Supercross at U.S. Bank Stadium

Catch off-road motorcycle racing over the weekend during Monster Energy Supercross at U.S.Bank Stadium. You can catch a glimpse of the track the athletes will be riding here

Date: Saturday

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Place: U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis


Cactus Blossoms at the Turf Club 

Take in the harmonies of Minneapolis' own Cactus Blossoms Saturday during their show at the Turf Club. The band gained attention after releasing the album "You're Dreaming" in 2016. Their second album is expected to be released later this year.

Time: 7 p.m.

Place: Turf Club, St. Paul


MIA Family Day 

Enjoy the Minneapolis Institute of Art during the museum's family day. This month's theme is I Heart Art.

Time: 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
