Target is expanding its toy department in time for the holidays.

The Minneapolis-based retailer plans to showcase more than 2,500 new toys on its shelves and online, which is reportedly nearly twice as many as last year.


"Our team has spent months preparing for this season, selecting the assortment, deepening our inventory to offer more of the hottest items and re-imagining the experience we have for toys in our stores and online," Mark Tritton, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer for Target, said in a statement.

Representatives also said stores will host more family-friendly events as the holidays approach.
