Pandemic shutdowns have taken a toll on the nation's workforce.
A Minnesota company celebrated American workers on Labor Day by launching an initiative to help give jobs back to millions of unemployed people.
Red Wing Shoe Company started the initiative but more than 50 brands joined the movement.
The goal was to turn a day off into a day dedicated to helping Americans find jobs.
As of Monday, there were more than 25 million unemployed Americans, and the hope is to get as many people back to work.
Here's how it works: Those who search #LaborDayOn via social media could see participating companies and the job openings they have available.
"Labor Day On" took place throughout the day with companies like General Mills, Polaris and Sleep Number taking part in the cause.
Red Wing Shoe Company also turned more than 500 of its stores in Minnesota and across the country into job centers for people to apply to local openings.
The customer service line turned into a job search hotline to help connect the unemployed to more open positions.
More than 22 million jobs were lost at the height of the pandemic and at this point, only about half of those have returned.
Monday, Red Wing Shoe Company stated they are calling on other brands to join the movement and help provide jobs for people.
