New numbers from Minneapolis Area REALTORS show sellers listed 4,359 properties in January in the 16-county Twin Cities metro area - a 7.8 percent increase over the same time period last year.

A release said inventory levels also rose to 7,828 - a 1.1 percent increase over January 2018. The median sales price rose to $258,900, a record high for the month and a 6.1 increase over January 2018.

The average cumulative number of days on market fell to 65 days, a 5.8 percent decrease from a year ago.

However, buyers closed on 2,861 homes last month, a 4.6 percent decrease from January 2018.
