At Mall of America, Convenient Parking for a Price

There's a big change coming Mall of America parking.

The mall is partnering with a company called MyPark to offer convenient parking options at the often-hectic super mall -- for a price.

You know you've been there: You hurry up and get the kids in the car for a trip to the mall, but all of a sudden come to a halt at the line in the parking garage.

Well, that could change if you are willing to pay.

The free app for iPhone and Android goes by the company's moniker, MyPark. It allows you to reserve a parking spot right in front of the mall doors, allowing you to avoid freezing winter gusts and holiday parking craziness.

Here's how it works: It's $6 for up to two hours, then an additional $3 per hour added. The app will automatically renew your time so you never have to worry about running out of time or overpaying the app.

"It allows you to get it on demand when you are headed out," said Luis Mayendia, CEO of MyPark. "You can actually do it up to six months in advance. So we have people reserving for Black Friday, for example. A very popular and very busy day."

The company has set aside 10 spots in the east garage and 10 in the west garage for the reservation service.

Mall of America is the first mall in the Midwest to bring in the MyPark technology. The company said it has plans to expand to other malls in the Twin Cities area.
