National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration adds new information on car and booster seat recalls

The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration has added new information to several existing recalls of booster and child car seats that impact thousands of products from different manufacturers. 

The following updates were posted Friday: 


Diono Recall

Diono, which is formerly known as SUNSHINE KIDS JUVENILE, has recalled 519,052 convertible and booster car seats that have "an increased risk of a chest injured in the event of a crash" when the seat is used with a lap belt. 

Diono says no injuries or deaths have been reported. 

The recalled models include certain Radian R100, Radian R120, Radian RXT, Olympia, Pacifica and Rainier convertible and booster car seats. They were manufactured between Nov. 25, 2013, and Sept. 5, 2017.

Britax Child Safety, Inc. Recall

Britax Child Safety, Inc., is providing a replacement chest clips to the owners of 207,037 child seats because the original chest clip tab may break and be a choking hazard for the occupant.

According to the NHSTA alert, the impacted units have a center tab on the chest clip labeled "ABS" that may break.

The impacted units include: B-Safe 35, B-Safe 35 Travel Systems, B-Safe 35 Elite, B-Safe 35 Elite Travel Systems and BOB B-Safe rear-facing infant child safety seats. The serial numbers can be found in the full NHSTA alert.

Britax will notify owners and will provide a replacement chest clip marked "PC", free of charge. The recall began in June of last year.  Britax at 1-833-474-7016 or visit the website.

Harmony Juvenile Products Recall
Harmony Juvenile Products is recalling 148,165 Big Boost Deluxe booster seats that "in the event of a crash, the seat belt may cause excessive force to be applied to the restrained child's chest," according to the NHSTA alert.

Owners were first informed of the safety risk in a mailing late this summer, and the remedy for the recall is still under development. Once this is determined, a new notice will be sent out.

Graco Children's Products Inc. Recall

Graco is recalling certain My Ride 65 convertible child restraints because "in the event of a crash, the child seat webbing may not adequately restrain the child," according to the NHTSA recall alert

Affected models are numbered: 1871689, 1908152, 1813074, 1872691, 1853478, 1877535, 1813015, and 1794334.

NHTSA said it affects 25,494 seats. 

Graco plans to notify owners, and retailers will issue a replacement harness for free. Those with questions can call Graco customer service at 1-800-345-4109.
