Growers Express vegetables recalled amid possible listeria contamination concerns

A California company is voluntarily recalling select vegetable products amid concerns those products might be contaminated with listeria.

Growers Express, LLC, announced the recall of butternut squash, cauliflower, zucchini, and butternut squash-based veggie bowl products under the Green Giant Fresh, Growers Express, Signature Farms and Trader Joe's brand names.

The products reportedly originated from a Growers Express production facility in Biddeford, Maine, and were distributed to dozens of states, including Minnesota.

The products specifically sold in Minnesota, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, were the Trader Joe's Butternut Squash Spirals (UPC number 623391, lot number 190614-403565 and a "best by" date of June 28, 2019) and the Trader Joe's Zucchini Spirals (UPC number 634908, lot number 190617-403814 and a "best by" date of June 27, 2019).

Consumers who purchased the potentially affected products are urged not to consume them and to throw them away. View the full recall report here.

Listeria is a bacteria that can cause fever and diarrhea, and more dangerous complications in pregnant women.
