Alonso: Mets on the brink of something extremely special
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso was back at his old high school in Tampa, Florida, this weekend for a charity event. He took part in a home run derby with Astros star Kyle Tucker and hit two drives over 400 feet. The Mets have signed free-agent ace Justin Verlander and made several other key moves in the offseason. Alonso says he thinks the Mets are “on the brink of something extremely special” under big-spending owner Steve Cohen. The Mets went 101-61 in the regular season last year, then lost to San Diego in the wild-card round.
