Everton’s board of directors did not attend Saturday’s home match against Southampton because of what the clubs says was a “real and credible threat to their safety and security.” The unprecedented decision follows disgruntled fans taking out their frustration at the team’s poor form on club officials. The club blames “malicious and unacceptably threatening correspondence.” Everton lost to fellow struggler Southampton 2-1 in the English Premier League to lie 19th in the standings.
