Bieber, Guards reach $10.01 million contract for ’23 season

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Guardians reached agreement with pitcher Shane Bieber on a $10.01 million contract for next season and avoided salary arbitration. Bieber made $6 million last season while leading Cleveland’s pitching staff in innings and strikeouts. The 27-year-old has expressed interest in signing a long-term deal with the AL Central champions but the sides haven’t been able to work out a deal. A two-time All-Star, Bieber is under team contractual control for two more seasons. The Guardians also reached deals with shortstop Amed Rosario, pitchers Cal Quantrill, Zach Plesac and Aaron Civale, James Karinchak and first baseman Josh Naylor.
