Barcelona agrees to sell striker Depay to Atletico

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Netherlands striker Memphis Depay will join Atletico Madrid after his transfer was agreed to by Spanish league rival Barcelona. Depay had already trained with Atlético on Thursday with permission from the Catalan club. Barcelona says Atletico has agreed to pay $3.25 million with a possible $1.08 million more in add-ons. Depay helped the Dutch national team reach the World Cup quarterfinals in December. He will now be tasked to team up with Antoine Griezmann and fill the void left after João Félix moved to Chelsea just last week. Depay had seen his playing time dwindle at Barcelona. His exit will help the indebted club reduce its payroll.
