MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Taylor Townsend’s 6-1, 6-1 victory over Diane Parry of France at the Australian Open has given the 26-year-old from Chicago her first Grand Slam singles win since becoming a mother. Townsend’s son was born in March 2021. Townsend said she received advice from Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters about life as a mother on the professional tennis tour. Townsend says she also recently took the first ‘solo vacation’ of her life and that helped her be refreshed heading into the 2023 season.
