A Canadian man was sentenced to 6 1/2 years for possessing 67 guns illegally
A Canadian man was sentenced to six-and-a-half years for possessing a gun as an illegal alien, says the United States Attorney’s Office.
On Jan. 10, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper stopped Dayne Adrian Sitladeen, 29, and co-defendant Muzamil Aden Addow, 29, near Fergus Falls, Minnesota, court records say. Officers reported Sitladeen and Addow were traveling around 100 miles per hour when police pulled them over.
As police approached the vehicle, they smelled marijuana. After Sitladeen gave troopers suspicious and inconsistent statements, they began searching the car.
Law enforcement was able to uncover 67 guns from four different bags and 15 high-capacity magazines.
State Patrol later learned of a provisional federal arrest warrant from the United States Marshals Service for Sitladeen. The warrant came from a 2019 Canadian arrest warrant for first-degree homicide and fentanyl distribution.
Sitladeen was sentenced on Wednesday after pleading guilty to one count of aiding and abetting gun possession by illegal aliens back in June, police say.
Documents say that the co-defendant, Muzamil Aden Addow, is scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Minnesota State Patrol worked together on this investigation.
