Strong storms moved through the Twin Cities metro Tuesday, with heavy rain bringing flash flooding in some areas.

The storm prompted severe thunderstorm warnings in Minnesota and tornado warnings in western Wisconsin, but those alerts have since expired.

Heavy rainfall led to flash flooding in parts of Anoka, Washington, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey and St. Croix counties. Some localized street flooding was also reported in Plymouth.

The National Weather Service says excessive runoff from the rainfall could cause the water to pool in urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as place with poor drainage areas.

Motorists are reminded to not drive through flooded roads; it only takes a few inches of swiftly-flowing water to carry vehicles away.
