Subzero Wind Chills Expected Through the Weekend

Those looking to spend New Years out and about may want to consider bundling up.

Because of extreme wind chills, the National Weather Service has placed portions of the state under a windchill advisory.

The counties in Minnesota affected include Kanabec, Isanti, Chisago, Hennepin, Anoka Ramsey, Washington, Carver, Scott, Dakota, Le Sueur County, Rice, Goodhue, Waseca, Steele and Freeborn counties. The Wisconsin counties impacted include Polk, Barron, Rusk, St. Croix, Pierce, Dunn, Pepin Chippewa and Eau Claire counties.

KSTP Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas says temperatures Saturday night are expected to reach -15 degrees, with wind chills ranging from -30 to -40 degrees. Yuhas says frostbite can occur to exposed skin in less than 5 minutes.

Yuhas said flurries are possible Sunday morning, however the rest of the day is expected to be sunny. Yuhas added it will be windy, but not as severe. Temperatures Sunday are expected to reach -4 degrees, with wind chills ranging from -15 to -20 degrees.

Temperatures aren't expected to rise above zero again until Tuesday.
