The snow stopped falling by Monday morning, however, KSTP Traffic Reporter Josie Smith advised planning for the morning commute to take extra time.

Although plows have made their way through most of the metro area, side streets remained tricky to navigate Monday morning, Smith said. She also said the majority of delays were occurring in the south metro.

Smith said to expect significant delays coming in from Monticello.

She added a crash on westbound Interstate 94 near Highway 95 was backing up traffic into Hudson, Wisconsin.

Metro Transit reported delays Monday morning, stating 33 percent of its buses were delayed as of 9:35 a.m., with an average delay of seven minutes.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, from 12 a.m. Friday through 8:45 p.m. Sunday, there were 630 crashes, 69 of which caused injuries, three of which caused serious injuries and two that were fatal. There were also 1,182 vehicle spinouts and 20 jackknifed semis.

Meanwhile, a number of schools throughout the metro are closed Monday and many cities have declared snow emergencies.

Many Minnesotans could spend Monday morning digging their vehicles out, especially in Minneapolis as the second day of the city's snow emergency begins.

"My wife and I were just saying I don't remember getting this much snow in one storm in years," Tom Steinmetz, of Northeast Minneapolis, said. "I don't remember a time we had this much at once."

KSTP Chief Morning Meteorologist Ken Barlow reports that so far, the metro area has picked up 78.2 inches of snow this season, making it the 10th snowiest on record.

Flights slowly began resuming to and from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Monday morning, after the weekend's snowfall forced runways to shut down for hours and caused hundreds of flight cancellations.
