Un-brrr-lievable Cold Expected for New Years

With an arctic surge making its way into Minnesota over New Year's weekend, portions of the state have been placed under wind chill advisories.

The National Weather service placed 25 counties in Minnesota and Wisconsin under a wind chill advisory through Sunday.

The Minnesota counties include Kanabec, Isanti, Chisago, Hennepin, Anoka, Ramsey, Washington, Carver, Scott, Dakota, LeSueur, Rice, Goodhue, Waseca and Steel counties. The Wisconsin counties include Barron, Rusk, St. Croix, Pierce, Dunn, Pepin, Chippewa and Eau Claire counties.

Wind chills on Saturday night are expected to drop into the -25 to -45 degree range. Wind chills on Saturday are expected to reach -20 to -35 degrees.

The National Weather Service warns that frostbite can occur in 10 minutes to skin that is exposed. 

The advisory is expected to be lifted at noon on Sunday.

KSTP Meteorologist Ken Barlow says there is a chance temperatures will finally reach the 20s again next weekend.
