Be Cautious of Black Ice: Multiple Injuries after Crash on I-494 E in Bloomington Shut Down Traffic

Authorities are advising drivers to be careful on the roads as bitter cold is producing black ice on bridges and ramps. 

A 6 a.m. crash on the Interstate-494 bridge over the Minnesota River in Bloomington shut down traffic for approximately two hours. 


The Bloomington Fire Department reports multiple injuries and a "prolonged extrication."

A wind chill advisory is in effect for much of Minnesota and Wisconsin Saturday. Wind chills during the day are expected to be -20 to -30 degrees, while wind chills could be as low as -40 overnight.

Saturday's high is -4 degrees. The bitter cold will be here awhile, heading into the New Year and lasting through next Saturday.
