A 9-year-old boy was killed when the ATV he was driving rolled over on the slope of a cut hay field in Douglas County Thursday afternoon.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports a 9-year-old was killed after the UTV overturned, pinning him underneath. A 10-year-old female passenger was also pinned under the machine, but managed to get free and go for help.


According to a release, she was transported to Douglas County Hospital by ambulance and was later airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital where she is listed in fair condition.

The release states Dingwall was airlifted to the Hennepin County Medical Center but died there.

The sheriff's office received a report of the incident, that occurred near Gravel Pit Road in Millerville Township, about 4:20 p.m. Thursday. The hay field was north of a residence. 

The two victims were riding a Polaris Ranger XP side-by-side UTV and were not wearing helmets.

The release said the matter remains under investigation.
