Two people were injured when a semitrailer and van collided on U.S. Highway 53 in Barron County, Wisconsin, Thursday morning.

A release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation states state troopers based in Spooner received a report of a driver traveling north in the southbound lanes of Highway 53 around 8:12 a.m. Thursday.


At 8:16 a.m., troopers located a crash on Highway 53 at 26 1/2 Avenue.

A 2003 Dodge van driven by a 67-year-old Rice Lake female had been traveling north when her vehicle collided with a southbound semi driven by a 67-year-old from Winneconne. A release states the driver of the van suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire.

The driver of the semi also suffered injuries and was taken to Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.

The crash remains under investigation. Names have not been released pending notification of family members.
