Minnesota IT Services and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety have contracted with a third party vendor to work on the driver services portion of the Minnesota License and Registration System, according to a press release.
FAST Enterprises will help provide software, implementation services, conversion and training for the driver's license IT system as the state works to meet the timeline for the REAL ID deadline of October 2018.
According to the release, FAST Enterprises has worked with 11 other states to set up similar systems.
"Brining in FAST Enterprises — which has repeatedly proven its ability to deliver this product on-time, without problems or delays — is the best possible way to modernize our driver and vehicle services, and provide Minnesotans the quality, timely services they expect," said Minnesota IT Services Commissioner Thomas A. Baden Jr.
The state currently uses other services offered by FAST Enterprises.
Since its launch, MLARS has faced multiple problems, leading to long lines at motor vehicle services offices and delays in issuing license plates.
On Friday, it was announced Paul Meekin — the top official involved with MNLARS — had been placed on leave.
