According to the incident report, a Kenworth Semi and Toyota Scion were both eastbound on Highway 36. The Scion was stopped at a red light when the semi hit it from behind.

The identity of the deceased individual is expected to be released Wednesday, though the report states he was a 54-year-old Amery, Wisconsin, man.

UPDATE: Authorities ID Victim of Fatal Crash in Lake Elmo

State Patrol identified the driver of the semi as 28-year-old Samuel Wayne Hicks. Hicks did not suffer any injuries during the crash. Authorities said Hicks is cooperating in the investigation and that alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Authorities plan to review footage from a Minnesota Department of Transportation traffic camera that is located at the intersection.

Caitlin Pott said she saw the aftermath of the crash on her way into work.

"The car didn't look like a car," she said. "It looked like it had gone through a compact. It wasn't good."

She added, "I can't imagine what is going through the mind of the semi driver, the fact he'll have to live with this the rest of his life."
