A man who said he was “trying out” his newly-purchased 2004 Kia Amanti led authorities in western Wisconsin on a chase through a small town before crashing into a cement wall.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call about 4:30 p.m. Monday on a report of a vehicle traveling at high speeds southbound on Wisconsin Highway 35 toward Fountain City and nearly striking a couple of vehicles.

A deputy in Fountain City at the time went northbound and upon finding the vehicle, attempted to make a traffic stop before the vehicle continued at high speeds into the town along the Mississippi River.

Going through Fountain City, the car nearly struck a northbound vehicle, the release says. The driver then attempted to turn onto Eagle Street but was traveling too fast and struck a cement wall along the road.

The deputy estimated the driver, identified as Ronald Kennerly of Fountain City, was going about 60 miles per hour when he attempted to make the turn.

Kennerly told authorities he was trying out his new 2004 Kia Amanti. He was taken via ambulance to a local hospital.
