Overnight Closures Continue at Lowry Tunnel, Work on I-35 Begins in Forest Lake

September 29, 2017 07:32 PM

The Lowry Hill Tunnel in Minneapolis will close at least three more times this fall.

Crews will shut down the westbound side of the tunnel Monday through Wednesday. According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the work will begin each evening at 10 p.m. and clear by 5 a.m. the following morning.

Crews will be installing curbs, striping the road and performing other tasks inside the tunnel.

Meanwhile, a new project is kicking off in the north metro this week. Expect to see intermittent lane closures along I-35 between the Forest Lake split and Highway 8.

Most of the work will occur in 2018 and 2019. In the meantime, crews will be busy preparing the construction site throughout October. The two-year project includes plans to resurface the pavement along I-35 and replace a couple of major bridges in the area. Learn more.
