Minneapolis city officials have provided an update on the work on Nicollet Mall, saying they expect a heavy summer construction period.

Officials said Friday marked the start of increased work.

An updated look at the timeline for renovations, and the unveiling of a new campaign, was expected later in the day Friday.

In February, city planners said the reconstruction of Nicollet Mall was under budget, despite an added $2 million to a current contractor working on the multi-million dollar project.

The goal is to have the downtown Minneapolis corridor "substantially completed" by the fall of 2017.
