Those traveling in the east metro may be surprised to find a new configuration on Interstate 94.

According to KSTP Traffic Reporter Josie Smith, a new configuration was set up Monday on I-94 between about Century Avenue and Highway 120 to Mounds Boulevard.

For those traveling westbound, there's a split. Drivers who need to exit off of I-94 must stay to the right and drivers who are traveling straight through must stay to the left.

Meanwhile, eastbound traffic was reduced to two lanes.

Smith said information from the Minnesota Department of Transportation included project details, but did not highlight the new configuration's start date, causing confusion during Monday's morning commute.

Smith added that this year is the final year for a large Interstate 694 project, in which a third lane is being added between Lexington Avenue in Arden Hills and Interstate 35E in Vadnais Heights. Last year, work to westbound I-694 was completed. However, lane closures on both sides of the interstate will continue until fall.
