Motorists: Prepare to See More Construction Barrels Starting this Weekend

April 06, 2018 06:10 PM

There will likely be some sizable traffic delays this weekend along Interstate 494 as construction barrels go into place in the west metro.

The roadway will be reduced to two lanes in both directions between County Road 6 and Carlson Parkway in Plymouth. The work will occur from 7 a.m to 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. There will be two ramp closures as well: County Road 6 to I-494 southbound and Carlson Parkway to I-494 northbound. Folks may want to use I-394 or Highway 55 instead.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Xcel Energy is doing some utility work this weekend.

In the north metro, signs have been up for a couple weeks alerting folks to a major resurfacing project along Interstate 35 between Highway 97 and Highway 8 in the Forest Lake/Columbus area. Periodic off-peak lane closures could go into place in both directions as soon as Monday April 9, weather permitting. Crews need to set up for the long-term lane closures that are scheduled to begin on Monday April 16. At that time, northbound I-35 will be reduced to two lanes until early August.

Learn more about the project.
