The Minnesota State Patrol has confirmed an officer-involved shooting on Interstate 94 West about three miles east of Moorhead Monday morning.

According to a release from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, the incident took place shortly before 10:30 a.m. Monday. A state trooper reportedly arrived on the scene and found a vehicle that had lost control, striking the median barrier. The trooper then made contact with the vehicle's two occupants - a male and a female.


The release states that at some point during the encounter, the trooper discharged their weapon, striking the female who is alleged to have fled into a nearby field before she was later located. The male passenger was taken into custody and the female was transported to Essentia Hospital in Fargo.

The release also said a firearm was recovered at the scene.

The trooper involved was not injured and has been placed on standard paid leave, as procedure calls for. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will lead the investigation, according to the release.
