Construction preparation on Interstate 94 between St. Paul and Maplewood is scheduled to begin Friday, weather permitting.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation said in a release that westbound I-94 between the I-694/I-494 interchange and U.S. Highway 61 will be reduced to two lanes of traffic from 7 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday.
Eastbound I-94 between Mounds Boulevard and McKnight Road will be reduced to two lanes of traffic from 8 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday.
In addition, the release states that over the next week drivers can expect alternating lane closures each day during the overnight hours in both directions on I-94 from Mounds Boulevard to the 694/494 interchange.
Road resurfacing is expected to begin on April 10. But the temporary lane closures are needed now as crews set up a traffic pattern that will be in place through mid-summer.
