Major I-394 Ramp Reopens Monday

August 28, 2017 11:42 AM

It was a long two weeks for drivers who normally use the busy ramp along Interstate 394 eastbound to Interstate 94 eastbound.

While the Minnesota Department of Transportation said the ramp was to open shortly after midnight Monday, it reopened just before 6 a.m.

The ramp closed on Aug. 14 for bridge work. Now that it has reopened, drivers from I-394 and the I-394 MnPASS Lanes will be traveling in the far left lane inside the eastbound Lowry Hill Tunnel.

This brings relief to traffic using the Hennepin/Lyndale Avenue ramp to I-94 eastbound. A number of commuters had been using it as a work-around during the closure. According to MnDOT, the Lowry Hill Tunnel is set to fully open ahead of schedule on Thursday, Aug. 31.

It's not all good news for drivers in Minneapolis. The ramp from I-94 eastbound to 7th Street is scheduled to close early Monday morning through Thursday, Sept. 7. Traffic will be diverted to 4th Street. Meanwhile, the ramp from Broadway Street to I-94 eastbound was expected to reopen early Monday. Learn more about the project.
