KSTP Traffic Round-Up: A Few AM Crashes Delay Metro Area Traffic

November 01, 2017 09:12 AM

WATCH 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Morning for the latest traffic updates.

It was an easy start to the Wednesday morning commute before rain and snow were expected to hit the metro area.

KSTP Traffic Reporter Josie Smith reported the roads were clear and dry Wednesday morning.

Here's a look at traffic incidents Smith was following Wednesday morning:

  • At roughly 8:30 a.m., Smith reported traffic was at a standstill, and reduced to one lane, along Excelsior Boulevard due to a crash south of Cedar Lake Road.

  • At about 8 a.m., Smith said to plan for a roughly half-hour drive on eastbound Interstate 394 from Interstate 494 to downtown Minneapolis. Traffic was slower due to earlier crashes on Interstate 94.

  • A crash occurred in the center lane on northbound Highway 52 at the Lafayette Bridge.

  • A crash on westbound Highway 610 near Highway 169 blocked the right lane.

  • A crash involving a squad blocked the left lane on northbound Highway 61, prior to Warner Road in St. Paul, at about 5:30 a.m. The crash cleared about an hour later. Smith reports the incident did not appear to result in serious injuries.

A snow-rain mix is expected to hit the metro area at about 11 a.m. Wednesday, which could make for a messy evening commute as 2 to 4 inches of snow could accumulate.
