KSTP Traffic Reporter Josie Smith said road conditions varied throughout the metro.

In terms of crashes, Smith reported a box truck was involved in a crash on eastbound Interstate 94 near County Road 37 in Albertville.

Smith also said a crash on westbound Interstate 494 at Highway 169 reduced traffic to one lane. Smith said early reports indicated a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the area.

Smith said the crash cleared and ramps reopened just before 7 a.m.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash occurred at 5:02 a.m. Phai Thao, 35, of St. Paul, was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry on the westbound I-494 ext ramp to Highway 169 when she lost control of her vehicle.

After coming to stop off the road to the left, Tho exited the vehicle and was standing next to it in the median divider, state patrol reported.

Then, 37-year-old Luis Rodriguez Murillo, from Mounds View, who was driving a 2007 Nissan Quest on the same ramp, hit some snow and lost control of the vehicle. The Nissan struck the Camry, which in turn struck Thao.

Thao was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center with serious injuries. State patrol reported she was conscious and able to speak with paramedics.

Later Tuesday morning, a blocking crash slowed traffic on westbound Interstate 394 near Penn Avenue. The crash cleared just before 8 a.m.

Snowfall had slowed by early Tuesday morning, giving plows more time to work. The Minnesota Department of Transportation's plow crews have been working around the clock to clear roads.

Meanwhile, the Monday morning and evening commutes proved to be difficult for many drivers.

State patrol reported between midnight and 8:45 p.m. Monday, there were 434 spinouts and 260 crashes. Of those incidents, 36 caused injuries and none were serious or fatal.
