The Minnesota State Patrol said one person was killed and another was taken to a nearby hospital after a crash on Interstate 35W near 26th Street in Minneapolis Monday morning.

Crews worked to remove the badly damaged SUV from the area.

According to the state patrol, a 29-year-old female driver of a Dodge Durango headed southbound on the interstate lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle struck the guardrail, which caused it to roll.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The Durango's 29-year-old female passenger was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Lanes along southbound I-35W reopened in the area just before 6 a.m. and authorities worked to reopen affected ramps as well.

Meanwhile, KSTP Traffic Reporter Josie Smith said the ramp from southbound Highway 280 to eastbound Interstate 94 did not reopen as planned on Saturday night and remained closed early Monday morning.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, weather delayed the project on Friday. The department plans to reopen the ramp by 4 p.m. Monday.

Smith also reported a crash occurred on eastbound Interstate 394 near Penn Avenue, close to the left lane. Traffic from Highway 169 slowed as a result.
