Major traffic tie-ups are expected in the east metro this weekend. A reconstruction and improvement project along Interstate 94 is returning for its second and final year.
Starting Friday night, I-94 eastbound will be reduced to one lane between Kellogg Boulevard, east of downtown St. Paul, and I-494/I-694 in Woodbury. The lane closures are expected to begin around 8 p.m. Friday and wrap up by 5 p.m. Saturday. Westbound will be reduced to a single lane along the same stretch starting Saturday at 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday.
Major ramp closures start Friday night as well. The Highway 61 northbound ramp to I-94 eastbound shuts down at 8 p.m. through fall.
A number of other ramps are set to close Friday night, and will open in May.
• White Bear Avenue to I-94 westbound
• Burns Avenue to I-94 (McKnight Road ramp) eastbound
• Hudson Road to I-94 westbound
• I-94 westbound to Hudson Road
• Southbound Etna Street to I-94 eastbound
• McKnight Road to I-94 westbound
On Wednesday April 12, the ramp from I-94 westbound to Highway 61 southbound will close until early May. Learn more about the project.
