The traffic hotspot this weekend is in the east metro.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced that Interstate 35E will close for the next two weekends in a row for concrete pavement repairs.

The northbound lanes will close this weekend between I-694 in Vadnais Heights and I-35 in Columbus starting at 10 Friday night until 5 Monday morning. The detour takes drivers to I-694, I-35W, and I-35.

MnDOT says a concrete overlay project was done in 2012 along I-35E, but some of the contraction joints have failed and need repairs.

Weekend travel has been especially tough this fall as Interstate 35W in south Minneapolis was shut down for two weekends in a row in late September/early October while crews demolished the Franklin Avenue Bridge south of downtown Minneapolis.

Next weekend, the southbound side of I-35E will close between I-35 and 694. Learn more about the project.
